Samsung Galaxy S III
According to executives speaking to the Yonhap news agency, Samsung has hit the 10 million sales mark with its new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S III. The company had predicted to hit the milestone by the end of July, and it expects to nearly double the figure by this fall.
“It appears that it (accumulated sales) has exceeded 10 million units,” said Samsung’s head of mobile, J.K. Shin. Shin did not clarify if this meant sales to customers or shipments to retailers. We have reached out to Samsung for clarification on the figure, and will update this story when we hear back.
The Samsung Galaxy S III has been available for purchase in Europe and Asia since May, and it became available on a number of carriers in the U.S. in June and July. The smartphone is available for purchase in over 140 countries around the world. Samsung was crowned as the world’s number one smartphone manufacturer in the first quarter of this year, and it is expected to hold that title through the second quarter.
